Senior Network Technician

Our client located in Dallas is looking for a Senior Network Technician for
a contract to hire role.

What will I be doing?

Diagnose hardware, software, and configuration failures of all networking
equipment and perform or secure repairs.
Conduct site surveys for school users requiring adds, moves, and changes,
to determine the need for hardware, software, and/or data communication
Plan and direct the efforts of others in the installation of new wiring,
fiber, conduit, cable tray, and other necessary.
Support data moves as necessary, cross-connect data communications wiring,
and check equipment for proper operation and connectivity.
Diagnose network problems and outages using a Network Sniffer, Lanalyzer,
or similar network traffic analysis equipment.
Assist new users concerning the use of data and voice communications.
Assist with the evaluation, specifications, and requirements of new
Document network installations, moves, and component configuration to the
satisfaction of the Network Manager WAN.
Maintain network uptime and reliability to the satisfaction of the Network
Manager WAN, Director, Network Services, and the Information Technology
Executive Director, with the goal of maintaining the network at a 99.99%
reliability standard
The network technician will provide on-call support on a scheduled basis.
Responsible for emergency off-hours network support as needed.
Keeps abreast of technical and professional trends and developments in data
networking through publications, conferences, seminars, and classes.
Installs, configures, and maintains web filtering devices, firewalls, and
intrusion detection devices.
Installs, configures, and maintains, switches, routers, wireless access
points, and other networking devices.
Leads and executes project management for large district wide network
upgrades and new installations, such as E-Rate and bond upgrades.
Coordinates large scale network and bandwidth upgrades with vendors and
providers such as At&T, Cisco Systems, Aruba, and other leading network
Manages and documents large complex systems such as the DISD enterprise
wireless network.
Leading in the design, installation, maintenance, and selection of all
networking equipment and software for the company's network environment.
Leading complex projects such as new construction/renovation, equipment
evaluation and selection, and technology research.
Performs all other tasks and duties as assigned.
What Skills do I need?

Must hold a Cisco Certified Network Associate (CCNA) certification, or
equivalent experience, or must obtain the CCNA certification within 12
months of being hired.

Physical Requirements:

The majority of the time the physical demands will consist of spending time
sitting at a desk.
Occasionally the technician will be required to lift and install network
devices, the largest of which will weigh approximately 75 lbs.
Installations of larger network switches will require multiple technicians.
